Spring Semester 2012....Almost

I return to campus in less than a week....and I'm so excited.  It's bittersweet, of course, because I've been having such a great time at home with my family and friends, but I can't help but look forward to a whole new semester of exciting classes, work, and my new internship.  And of course, the Roomie is returning from France and will be living right next door to me and Italia :)

I'm totally drooling over my book list for this semester; there has to be about 20 books, and out of all of them, there's ONE that I was SUPPOSED to read in high school, but totally didn't. (yikes!)  That means I'm going to be hit with thousands of pages of untold stories over the course of the next fourteen weeks.  I can't wait! :)

This semester is--without a doubt--going to be the busiest I've had yet.  I'm really looking forward to it, though.  I see it as an exciting challenge.

Moving Back In

I've just moved back into the old dorm room; and well, it feels weird. Part of me feels like I have never left, whereas part of me can't believe I'm already back. I'm currently alone....Professor Thomas and his family kidnapped the Roomie, but I didn't get in the van (oh god....this sounds like a real kidnapping, doesn't it?) I was going to the library to pick up a book for class tomorrow (I ordered it online, but it didn't come in yet. I don't want to buy a second copy, so I'm using the library copy to tide me over until then).

Dinner with the Professor and the Roomie soon. Looking forward to it, but I'm soooo not hungry right now. In fact, I don't want to eat anything, but I'm going to eat a little I guess; mostly, I'm going to be social. The food is going to suck; I know this for a fact. Perhaps its good that I'm not hungry.

I feel kinda bad that I didn't jump in the van with everyone else, but that's not me, so why worry about it? Right?

Finals Week....

Finals week is almost at an end....FINALLY. I'm very lonely here, though, since most of my friends went home, and those who are here are busy studying for finals. I'd call one of those who went home (I actually have a certain professor in mind), but I don't want to come across as that lame, clingy person who calls as soon as you leave because she misses you. It's just that I'm lonely and want someone to talk to...is that so bad? :(

Luckily, before she left, the wonderful Roomie gave me cookies made of sugar, butter, and pure joy, which have been a life-saver :P

Practical Gifts

Today, the Wonderful Roomie and I learned an important lesson. When guys don't know what to get you for Christmas, unlike girls, they won't ask seventy million people what to get you. Instead, they go for something more practical. The Roomie and I stressed out about what we were going to get for Professor Thomas and Matt for Christmas. In the end, we got them fun stuff that we knew they would like: a Jeff Dunham DVD & Pepsi for the Professor, and a Mario t-shirt for Matt.

The guys got the Roomie two boxes of Lucky Charms cereal (since it's her favorite and they don't have it in the dining hall anymore), and got me a no-slip mat to go under the rug in our room, since they know I risk my life on that rug every single day. It may not be the craziest or most fun thing ever, but its still practical and thoughtful. Thanks guys :)

Next weekend we celebrate with the group ;)

What Do You Get...

when you set off a fire alarm in a college dorm, bring three friends together, and add about $20 between them?

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is something wonderful about Ben and Jerry's Phish Food at 11:00 at night..... :")

Monty

So, Monty is a friend of The Roomie's who I've had a crush on for a few months now. Its sort of an on-and-off thing, mostly because well....Monty can be somewhat creepy. Not going to lie; he's very cute, and looks good in all his quirky outfits, but he's pretty strange most of the time, which I guess is what I liked about him-- he was different. (Although, I don't really see myself dating someone who orders chicken and rice as "Can I have some rice and a piece of animal?")

Today, I caught him staring at me from across the dining hall. It was very strange, since he barely talks to me, and really has no reason to be paying me any attention at all. So, I look over, and he's staring at me. I look away. I look back, and he's still staring at me. This time, he squawks "Hello" just like one of the Pepper Pot ladies in Monty Python's Flying Circus. I kinda jump, and turn beet red; he really startled me!

The best part is that Kiity and I were very aware of the awkward interjection (to the conversation over at our table), but the Roomie kept on talking, not realizing what had happened. :P Perhaps she's just used to him by now. haha

(For the record, he sounds more like Graham Chapman's character Marge--the one in the tan coat on the right.)

Stranded....In the Pouring Rain....And the Shuttle is Late

Kiity, the Roomie, and I took the school shuttle/van up to the craft store this evening to pick up some last minute things for our door decorating contest. It didn't take us that long, and soon we were waiting for the shuttle to take us back. The shuttle is supposed to come every fifteen minutes. After waiting at least half-an-hour in the pouring rain, Kiity gets a call from her mom and says she's going to be getting a ride. She then walks off and leaves us (don't worry; she comes back). She ends up calling the Roomie to tell her that she'll give us a ride, and while they're on the phone, I'm approached by an adorable little old Jewish couple who offer me a ride. Say they live just a street away from the campus, and they could take us back. You have no idea how good that offer sounded....BUT, cute little old couple or not, I watch America's Most Wanted, and...well, you never know. I really appreciate the thought, though, and if they happen to be reading this, I want to say thank-you. Its nice to know that there are still good people in the world who are willing to help someone in need. God bless.

Door Decorations Update

Our Sweeney Todd door is slowly coming along. We've had a few slip-ups along the way, though, including printer failure, lack of a glue stick, the need for creative picture editing, paper deficiency, and me hitting my head on the cinder block wall (I have a nice goose-egg now; tender to the touch, but at least it doesn't hurt as much anymore)...We still need to complete the signs, buy more paper for the windows, and edit the pictures we currently have to make them work. (We had a dress up day as Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett, which was epic!) My favorite picture would have to be either the one where Sweeney (moi) is going to slit Mrs. Lovett's (the Roomie's) throat with his razor (construction paper and painters tape), or the candid shot of an injured Sweeney holding a cold can of Orange Crush to his head, while trying to open a bottle of Tylenol with one hand. I have the cap from the bottle in my mouth, and I'm attempting to pour the pills into my hand. Frustrating at the time, but oh-so-funny now :)

It's Been a Looooooonnnnnnnnnng Day........

Yeah...A very long day:

Wake up...
Four classes (my busy day)...
Film Club (had to skip...needed a few minutes to myself before service)....
The van to service was late....
Tutor little kids for two hours....
Dinner with my guy friends (one of whom couldn't keep his hands off me--AWKWARD, and I HATE being poked)....
English Club....
A little TV time before starting homework....
Homework....

But, on the flip side, the Wonderful Roomie made me cookies; which totally made my day! :")

A Girl's Night Out

The wonderful Roomie and I have been stuck in classes all week, and finally decided that we needed a break. So, when the school offered a trip out into the world beyond the campus for dinner and a late-night showing of Easy A, how could we resist?

The dinner was at a local restaurant/bar, which was either full of smoke (with the doors closed) or had the doors open and was freezing cold. The chicken fried rice was amazing, and I almost learned how to use chopsticks--ALMOST.

Easy A was really funny. Starring Emma Stone, its a hilarious chick flick loosely based on Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter. Olive Pendergrast, wallflower, finds herself suddenly in the center of attention at her high school when a rumor gets out that she slept with a college student. Soon, gay guy Brandon asks her to pretend to have sex with him so that people will stop picking on him because of his sexuality. And the rumor starts to grow out of control, as Olive pretends to sleep with guys for gift cards, and begins to wear a red letter "A" on all of her tops in her slutty new wardrobe. But, when she realizes that her life is falling apart, is it already too late to change things? Watch the movie and find out :P

I had a wonderful time tonight, but the strangest thing was this: when I left the movie, there were two guys in my head. One you might have heard about, I won't say for certain...the other one...well, I KNOW I've never mentioned him before. It's going to be interesting I guess. Well...I'm tired; g'night!

...And ONE MORE...!

I'm almost done! I have two more finals done (Psychology and Classical Mythology) and now I'm down to the "final" final...Latin. That one is going to be a bitch. Right now, my hands are so cramped up that I can barely type; holding a pencil is even harder. I was writing constantly for all those finals, and I'm just ready to be done. The hardest part is that this is my last one and my hardest. I don't want to slip up now; I'm almost finished!

Thank you to Javmango, Steven, and Chess who have been so supportive of me the past week. (Thank you to everyone else who has sent me the encouraging comments, too, but these three have been above and beyond :") I really appreciate it!) I've been stressing about finals, freaking out, and bursting with happiness, and in the end, you guys are always backing me up.

I have another question for all of you...Should I give Professor Thomas the link to this blog? He's actually already asked for it, and I kinda stalled, because I wasn't sure. What do you guys think?

I don't know how much I'm going to be posting over the summer, since I'm not on my compy as much when I'm at home, but I'll try to keep you all up to date. Its going to be hard for me, at least for the first couple of weeks, because I'm not going to have the Roomie and Professor Thomas there every day anymore. (I have a lot of people I'm going to miss over the summer, but these two are like my best friends, and they live too far away to see much over the summer. Kiity, Matt, and Courtney live closer, so that shouldn't be a problem. I have no desire to see Willoughby after some of the things he has said to me lately, and as for Odysseus, even though he lives close to me, I don't know where we stand anymore. He's been avoiding me for a while, and now, out of the blue, he's being nice again, and acknowledging me and talking to me. He even initiated conversation! :-O Shocking! I'm going to ask him to go for a walk once I finish this post, and maybe I can figure some stuff out...

Love you guys!

My Last Wednesday...

So, yesterday, as I told you guys, I had my first final taken care of. Right now, I'm supposed to be studying for the next one, but I just can't concentrate :P I want to tell y'all about my last Wednesday before the end of the school year...

So, we went out for ice cream. That is...me, the Roomie, Professor Thomas, and Courtney. It was really, really fun :) As we were walking back, Professor Thomas and I fell behind Courtney and the Roomie, and he reached out and put his arm around me, drawing me really close to him. Is it bad that I loved it? Is it bad that I loved the warmth and contact with a guy, even if he's just like my best friend, and not a romantic interest? Even if he is a faux professor? I really don't know, but I loved it.

Afterwards, the Roomie and I studied a little, and then headed over to the faux professor's dorm for cards. We played for like two hours before I finally said I had to go and finish studying. Then, it just got silly. I was lying in an arm chair, my legs over one arm, my head at the other, and Professor Thomas used it as a chance to push me across the lobby, and then threatened to pick me up and carry me even further. (I'm small, and he's much taller than I am, so he's always trying to pick me up).

We took pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. It was wonderful and fun and I loved it soo much! I'm going to miss the Roomie and Professor Thomas tons over the summer. I don't know how I'll be able to live without them for three months! (I'll be calling them a lot, that is for certain!)

Pavlov's Emmy

Yeah, so as the title might suggest, I've been studying for my Psychology final recently. Also, as the title suggests, I had a embarrassing discovery today. I was at lunch, seated between Kiity and Professor Thomas, and as usual, both were trying to make me extremely uncomfortable and jumpy by poking me in the ribs. (Yes, dear readers, I am a bit ticklish...)

Well, after their having done this to me for so long, apparently, I've developed this condition where I will jump and emit an embarrassing, high-pitched squeal before they poke me, just as I would when they poke me. Professor Thomas was quite pleased with this discovery, and then went on to explain to Kiity and the Roomie (as though he were teaching a Psychology course, with me as the test subject) that if you observe, the gesture and threats of poking have now become a conditioned response. Basically, I'll jump and squeal if you poke me; and now, if either of them simply makes the move to poke me, I'll do the same exact thing. Murr...

The only thing that I can say is that this has strengthened my understanding of Classical Conditioning, and if nothing else, I'm sure to ace that portion of the final. Still, this does nothing for my sense of pride :P

The Last Weekend (Bittersweet)

As I'm sure you've guessed from the title, this is to be my last weekend on campus. After that, the wonderful Roomie and I are to be separated for three whole months, and the chances of seeing any of my other friends are pretty slim as well, seeing as they all live pretty far away. I'm really, really going to miss them.

This weekend is bittersweet. Part of me wants to take advantage of it as much as I can, enjoying life to the fullest and spending all my time with everyone. Unfortunately, its also Mother's Day weekend, and yes, I miss my family a lot. However, as much as I really want to see them today, I just keep on telling myself that in less than a week, we're going to be together again. Less than a week. I won't see my friends for three months. Still...

Okay, okay, I'll just get it out in the open. My parents want me to come home this weekend. I told them that I wanted to stay and see my friends for the last time. My parents were supposed to come up and have lunch to celebrate Mother's Day. Now, they want me to come home and stay home for the weekend, but that means giving up all my plans for time with my friends. I know I'm being selfish, but I liked it better before they started tampering with a game plan that we had established about a month and a half ago, which was that they come in for lunch, and I stay here for the last time.

I hope everything works out in the end. I don't know what to do.

Poetry Reading Update

So, I'm back! And all in one piece still (even though my head is kind of killing me). No, dear readers, I was not getting drunk; I'm just tired, and it was very loud there. The poetry reading was a lot of fun, though, and really enjoyed all of it! At the end, there was time for open mike, and an estranged friend got up and read a poem about his experiences in the United States (he's from South America). It was a beautiful poem and it made me smile. If he gives me permission, I will post it for you. ;)

No, we did not drink...We're underage; I'm sure you have figured it out by now...but the Roomie had a friend offer to buy her a drink, but she turned it down, because she didn't realize that when he offered to "buy her something to drink," he meant that he wanted to buy her alcohol, not more Pepsi. :P Oh, that silly, silly girl.

I'm definitely coming back next year; and I'm going to write some poetry and read it aloud. That would be a lot of fun. What do you guys think?

Poetry Reading

Going to a poetry reading with the wonderful Roomie and Kiity. As an English Major, this begs to be a lot of fun. Cute guys, free food, discount alcohol (but I don't drink), and of course, poetry! I'm really excited!

I've been walking around all day carrying a collection of poems by Paul Muldoon. He's an amazing poet, and I totally recommend his work. He's hard to understand at first, I mean, his poems are very deep, but he's such an wonderful writer, that once you figure it out, its totally worth it!

Wish me luck! I'll post an update later. ;)

Dorm Selection

Today's the day the Roomie and I get to select our dorm room for the next school year. We had it all planned out; the dorm we wanted was close to all the campus buildings, was similar in setup to the dorm we have right now, and we were hoping for a room on the second floor. Well, there was one sticky issue...

We had signed up for a substance free floor.

So...what's the problem, right? I mean, I wanted to be on a substance free floor! Well, there's only one sub-free floor (no alcohol or drugs) on campus for upperclassmen, and that's across the street at a separated part of campus. Oh, and its the third floor. We tried to change our preferences, so that we would not have to be restricted to this one floor, but Residence Life told us that we're basically stuck on this floor, and we just have to make the best of it.

So, the Roomie and I were pretty disappointed, until we realized that one of the BIG CORNER dorm rooms was open! The Roomie has already been in one of these before, and she tells me that there's a definite difference between a normal room and a BIG CORNER room. I'm sooo excited! I guess every cloud really does have a silver lining.

Snow

The snow is just so beautiful today, although incredibly cold. As I stare out the window of my dorm room, watching the puffy white flakes flying around dizzily, I can't help but think how wonderful today would be with a cup of hot coffee, a good book, and a cute man to cuddle with :")

Well...hehe...the only coffee I have access to right now (as in, if I want to stay inside where it is warm...) is rather lukewarm, and bittter, since I was in a rush, and didn't have the chance to add any sugar this morning, when I bought it! :P As for a good book, I actually don't have anything that I really want to read right now, and there is no cute guy for me to cuddle with...just a fleece blanket covered in hearts; the roomie and I refer to it as "The Blanket of Love," lol. So...I guess I'll just continue staring out the window at the snow. It's peaceful and beautiful, and it makes me happy...
