Father's Day

Ever since I was little, my dad has been one of the most important people in my life.  He was my mentor, my teacher, my own personal comedian, and my friend.  But, more than any of those things, he was and still is, my hero.  And I know he doesn't read this blog, and probably never will, but I just want to say how important he is to me.  We might not always get along or see eye-to-eye, but he means more to me than just about anyone else.  He's one of my all-time favorite people, and so much of what I am is a result of what he has done for me.

But, there are other father figures in my life as well....And I'd like to take a moment to recognize them all in turn:

  • My late grandfather T.L.M., who was my hero as a child.  He was a war veteran and one of the strongest men I know.  Even though he passed when I was still young, there are still so many things that remind me of him on a daily basis.  Thank you, Grandpa, for being my hero, too.
  • My other grandfather P.J.H., who is one of the most generous men I know.  I have had so many wonderful experiences because of this man, and have learned so much.  Beautiful and funny memories abound.  Thank you, Dziager*, for being there for me for so long. [*Dziager is Polish for grandfather]
  • O.F., my blogging father/grandfather.  Even though we have never actually met in person, I can tell that he is a great man, and I'm so grateful for the chance to be in contact with him.  His honest wisdom always amazes me, and makes me wish that I could be a philosopher like him.  Thank you, O.F.

Appreciation

I've been feeling a little out of it lately; a little under-appreciated.  And as I was thinking about it, I realized that if you want someone to know that you appreciate them, you have to tell them!  So....I whipped up a little "Rage Comic" for y'all to tell  you how I feel.....

A token of my appreciaton.  (Yes, that's supposed to be me, haha)

Merry Christmas, guys :) I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful holiday! (I'm sure that I won't be able to post anything tomorrow; I'll be too busy) :P

Stranded....In the Pouring Rain....And the Shuttle is Late

Kiity, the Roomie, and I took the school shuttle/van up to the craft store this evening to pick up some last minute things for our door decorating contest. It didn't take us that long, and soon we were waiting for the shuttle to take us back. The shuttle is supposed to come every fifteen minutes. After waiting at least half-an-hour in the pouring rain, Kiity gets a call from her mom and says she's going to be getting a ride. She then walks off and leaves us (don't worry; she comes back). She ends up calling the Roomie to tell her that she'll give us a ride, and while they're on the phone, I'm approached by an adorable little old Jewish couple who offer me a ride. Say they live just a street away from the campus, and they could take us back. You have no idea how good that offer sounded....BUT, cute little old couple or not, I watch America's Most Wanted, and...well, you never know. I really appreciate the thought, though, and if they happen to be reading this, I want to say thank-you. Its nice to know that there are still good people in the world who are willing to help someone in need. God bless.

My Library

As most of you know, I really want to be a librarian. Well, today, Sarah just gave me a step forward in the right direction! We went out to lunch today, and she gave me a little gift she had picked up while on vacation: A Personal Library Kit!

Isn't that just the coolest thing ever?? The kit contains everything I need for my own personal library, including checkout cards, pockets to hold said cards (I'm sure you remember those from the old library books from like grade school...you write your name on the card so the librarian knows who checked out the books), a date stamp and stamp pad, and a pencil. I'm going to have to decide which books to prepare for circulation :D

Thanks so much, Sarah! This really means a lot, and I had fun today :)

...And ONE MORE...!

I'm almost done! I have two more finals done (Psychology and Classical Mythology) and now I'm down to the "final" final...Latin. That one is going to be a bitch. Right now, my hands are so cramped up that I can barely type; holding a pencil is even harder. I was writing constantly for all those finals, and I'm just ready to be done. The hardest part is that this is my last one and my hardest. I don't want to slip up now; I'm almost finished!

Thank you to Javmango, Steven, and Chess who have been so supportive of me the past week. (Thank you to everyone else who has sent me the encouraging comments, too, but these three have been above and beyond :") I really appreciate it!) I've been stressing about finals, freaking out, and bursting with happiness, and in the end, you guys are always backing me up.

I have another question for all of you...Should I give Professor Thomas the link to this blog? He's actually already asked for it, and I kinda stalled, because I wasn't sure. What do you guys think?

I don't know how much I'm going to be posting over the summer, since I'm not on my compy as much when I'm at home, but I'll try to keep you all up to date. Its going to be hard for me, at least for the first couple of weeks, because I'm not going to have the Roomie and Professor Thomas there every day anymore. (I have a lot of people I'm going to miss over the summer, but these two are like my best friends, and they live too far away to see much over the summer. Kiity, Matt, and Courtney live closer, so that shouldn't be a problem. I have no desire to see Willoughby after some of the things he has said to me lately, and as for Odysseus, even though he lives close to me, I don't know where we stand anymore. He's been avoiding me for a while, and now, out of the blue, he's being nice again, and acknowledging me and talking to me. He even initiated conversation! :-O Shocking! I'm going to ask him to go for a walk once I finish this post, and maybe I can figure some stuff out...

Love you guys!

My Arthurian Hero Doesn't Wear Armor; He Wears Glasses!

It really is true that people can be so different from what everyone else thinks of them. For example, this guy from my literature class. Willoughby knew him in high school, and tells me constantly how much of a player and a tool this guy is. And, I guess, just like Elizabeth Bennett, I was inclined to believe Wickham over Darcy. Not saying that the case is as extreme as that, but its a similar story: "I knew this guy and he's bad news, stay away!" and it turns out that he's a pretty nice guy after all. I mean, he's helped me out a heap today, and without me even having to come to him for assistance!

Basically, it was this: I lost some of my notes for one of the books in my literature class, and I need those notes for the stuff that's going to be on the final. So, I sent out a mass email to everyone, saying "Could you please give me a copy of your notes?" No one did. Then, out of nowhere, I run into this guy at the library, and he's like, "Hey, do you still need those notes?" (which of course, I did) and not only did he get me a copy of the notes, but he used his own money for it. I mean, I know it wasn't a lot (like 50 cents) but still, that was really, really nice of him, and I appreciate him trying to help me out like that.

I really wish there were more guys like him out there: just nice guys who are willing to help someone out just because they can. (And I feel as though I've learned an important lesson right now. I mean, I always thought he was a nice guy, and I tried to ignore what Willoughby was saying, but this just cemented in my mind all that I was trying to believe). So, I want to send out a huge thank you to Pete, who will prolly never read this post, but thank you! You are my hero for this class!!! :P
