"Country Roads" in Minor Key

So, I don't know the "science" behind it, but songs in "major key" are happy and upbeat, and songs in "minor key" are more somber.  Sometimes, you can find listings online of songs where the key has been switched.  This one is my favorite of those.

If "Country Roads" is meant to be a positive, happy song about going back home, this is a sort of sad, serious version.  It's hauntingly beautiful.  I like to think that this is what would be playing in the background when the hero in a movie has to flee his home, for whatever reason, knowing that he could never come back.

And on an unrelated note, it's snowing.  Last week, I didn't even need a coat, but right now, there's snow on the driveway.  I don't even know anymore.

A "Surprise" Outside

Before I go to bed, I like to leave a slight gap in the blinds to let the sun shine in so I can wake up to a bright, sunny day (granted the sun is shining).  There's a tree outside my window, but it's kinda scraggly, and I don't really take it much into account most of the time.  I surely noticed it today though, because it was white.  My scraggly brown-and-black tree was WHITE.  Yeah.  You guessed it.  Snow.

I know some of you love snow.  My brother loves snow.  The Roomie (now in France) loves snow.  I think it's pretty, but I'm not interested in going out in it.  So far, it looks like it's only a dusting, but even so, I take this to be a very bad sign....ie., winter is coming.  And did I mention that I'm not going home for like two more weeks, and I don't have a winter coat on campus?  I have several jackets.....but not a coat.  And, I don't have hats or scarves, either.  I have sweaters.  So....if you guys don't hear from me in a while (either posting on my blog or commenting on yours), then it probably means I've frozen to death in a crazy snow storm that sorta popped up out of nowhere.

I think I'm going to knit myself a scarf this weekend.  I don't exactly have TIME or MONEY, but I'm sure I can think of something.  I have blue and green yarn in the dorm, but it's too thin to be warm, and besides, I'm already using it to make a light blanket.  I'm thinking some nice, thick magenta wool-blend.  As for a pattern, I'm just going to go with garter stitch; basic, reliable, and simple.  Either that, or I'll go all out and do something like basket weave or raspberry stitch.  I don't want to make anything too complicated, though, since I'm going to have to have something to wear by Monday.  Haha; that's the problem.  I really need something to keep me warm, and trying to make a pretty pattern like raspberry stitch will take me FOREVER to do.  So, it comes down to appearance or usefulness.  I'm going to go with usefulness.

Strolling Through Snow on a Thursday Evening (Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening)

The Roomie had service tonight, so I decided to be a good friend and hang out with her while we were waiting for the service van to come. It. Was. Beautiful. It. Was. FREEZING. We wandered around for a little while, trying to keep warm while we waited for the van, and then, we noticed the huge snowflakes falling everywhere, landing on our coats and our hair. They were so big that we could see all the little details on each flake! It was just an amazing experience with nature!

I walked back alone, and had a few peaceful minutes just to contemplate the world around me, and the glory that God has created. (By the time I got back to my dorm room, I couldn't feel my face, fingers, or toes...I'm currently defrosting). But, before I left the Roomie, we had some time to talk about the snow, and both of us thought of Robert Frost's poem: "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," one of my personal favorites :D The weather must have been just like this when Robert Frost wrote his poem...

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

~Robert Frost

Snow

The snow is just so beautiful today, although incredibly cold. As I stare out the window of my dorm room, watching the puffy white flakes flying around dizzily, I can't help but think how wonderful today would be with a cup of hot coffee, a good book, and a cute man to cuddle with :")

Well...hehe...the only coffee I have access to right now (as in, if I want to stay inside where it is warm...) is rather lukewarm, and bittter, since I was in a rush, and didn't have the chance to add any sugar this morning, when I bought it! :P As for a good book, I actually don't have anything that I really want to read right now, and there is no cute guy for me to cuddle with...just a fleece blanket covered in hearts; the roomie and I refer to it as "The Blanket of Love," lol. So...I guess I'll just continue staring out the window at the snow. It's peaceful and beautiful, and it makes me happy...
