Help!

My dear readers, I'm afraid I must ask for your assistance...

I've been having a bit of trouble reading these past few weeks.  I don't mean dyslexia or anything, rather, I can't find anything that really grabs my attention.  I've read a ton of stuff, started a lot of books, but I've not found anything that really wows me.....nothing that makes me think Now THAT was a really good book!  It just feels mechanical and dull.  I just don't feel motivated (and being an English major, that is the kiss of death!)

So, that's where you guys come in.... Does anyone have a good book to recommend?  A real page turner for me to sink my teeth into?  I'd really appreciate your suggestions, and please rest assured that genre does not matter!  All I know is that if I don't read a good book soon, I'm afraid this disenchanted bookworm will turn into an illiterate pumpkin before the first day of classes!

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

Last night, the Brother and I finished watching a wonderful movie recommended by OldFool in response to my Guilty Pleasure post. It was an amazing film about tomatoes that are literally attacking, killing, and eating the people of America. This horror is faced head-on by government operative Mason Dixon and his team of special agents. Despite this terrifying premise (I know you are all hiding under the bed right now), this is actually a very funny movie and a cult classic. Absolutely a must-see! Thanks again to OldFool for recommending this awesome movie to us!

Black Books

Okay, so the Brother and I just finished another British comedy series, this one recommended to me by Javmango. It's a hilarious series starring Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, and Tamsin Greig.

The basic premise of the story revolves around the lives of Bernard Black, a misanthropic bookstore owner; his well-meaning and bearded assistant Manny Bianco; and Fran Katzenjammer, Bernard's oldest friend who owns the gift shop next door.

The series is hilarious! I can't recommend it enough! ;)

Summer Reading/ What I'm Reading Now

Summer is finally here for me, and I'm finally able to get some reading done :) So, I wanted to announce that, for the summer, I'm going to have a section on the blog sidebar that's dedicated to what I'm reading now. (Just in case you want some ideas for books) and what I think of my current reads.

If you have any reading suggestions, please include them in COMMENTS :) I would love to hear about some new books. I like to read a little of everything, so please don't hesitate to suggest anything. (The only books I ask that you don't recommend is Harry Potter or Twilight). Thanks, guys!

Currently, I'm reading one of my all-time favorite books: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein. I've read this about 10 times now, but every time it gets a little bit better :)

For those of you who are not familiar with this book, The Hobbit is the prelude to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a sweet, quiet sort of fellow (and yes, a Hobbit) who finds himself wrapped up in this crazy quest to help a band of dwarfs reclaim their lost treasure and kingdom from the dragon Smaug. A wonderful, wonderful read. Highly recommended!

Sick and Searching for English Translations

Being sick for the past three days, I've had plenty of time to sit around and reflect on literature (can't say I'm complaining, but I wish the sore throat would go away...) But, I can't seem to be able to keep my attention on ONE book, or even TWO books...I've been jumping back and forth between no less than FIVE! D: And, to be honest, I'm a little tired of it...I really just want to be able to settle down and enjoy one piece of literature, and one only! Does anyone have a recommendation for me? *hopeful expression on face* Also, does anyone know if there is an English translation of either Voyage au bout de la Nuit by Céline, or Les Fleurs du Mal by Baudelaire? A French friend recommended both to me, and since I can't speak or read French to save my life, I have no hope of reading two wonderful literary works, and it greatly saddens me... :'( Please be merciful on a pitiful English Major with no hope of learning a foreign language!
