Back on Campus

Well, here we go!  Another school year is about to start!  Emmy is officially back on campus; a little dazed, a little overwhelmed, but really looking forward to a challenging and fun semester!

I'm not going to be living with the Roomie anymore :(  She's going to be in France this semester, and living with our friend Rachel second semester.  I'm going to be with the NEW roommate: Italia.  As in she LOVES Italy :)  Sadly, I'm going to be alone for a few days until she's able to move in.  I'm a bit lonely, but I do enjoy the time to myself.

Spent most of the day with Rachel, my new next-door neighbor.  We hung out, cleaned and arranged our dorms, and went to see the guys at dinner.  (The dining hall food sucked as always, so I just had a glass of pop.  Later that night, the two of us ordered Chinese food and had a movie party).  The Princess Bride is seriously the greatest film ever :)  Thanks, Matt, for buying it for me :):):)

Matt and Professor Thomas both seemed to be in good moods.  Although, I will say it was a bit frustrating being embarrassed by the Professor in front of a couple of Freshman that Matt was eating with.  I know I should be used to his antics by this point, but it's never fun being embarrassed so badly, and of course, I can't hide my embarrassment, because my face burns bright red every single time!  Oh well......I did miss him over the summer, and I guess when you're friends with this faux Professor, you have to be prepared for this sort of treatment.  After a couple of weeks, I'll build up a tougher skin.

Really excited for classes to start.  I have some good stuff lined up (hopefully, I'll be able to update more about that later).  For now, I'm thinking I'll just take a break and start to wind down for the night.

G'night, y'all! :)  Looking forward to having more news for you!

Professor Thomas & Bear Hugs

Professor Thomas wasn't at dinner tonight. Normally, that wouldn't bother me, but I really needed him tonight. When I'm stressed or having an issue about something, I can always count on him to read my mind; maybe not to know WHY I'm stressed, but to know that I just need a little extra love and affection. He always knows just when to wrap me up in one of those big, warm bear hugs of his, and for a minute, I finally feel as though the world is no longer ending.

Moving Back In

I've just moved back into the old dorm room; and well, it feels weird. Part of me feels like I have never left, whereas part of me can't believe I'm already back. I'm currently alone....Professor Thomas and his family kidnapped the Roomie, but I didn't get in the van (oh god....this sounds like a real kidnapping, doesn't it?) I was going to the library to pick up a book for class tomorrow (I ordered it online, but it didn't come in yet. I don't want to buy a second copy, so I'm using the library copy to tide me over until then).

Dinner with the Professor and the Roomie soon. Looking forward to it, but I'm soooo not hungry right now. In fact, I don't want to eat anything, but I'm going to eat a little I guess; mostly, I'm going to be social. The food is going to suck; I know this for a fact. Perhaps its good that I'm not hungry.

I feel kinda bad that I didn't jump in the van with everyone else, but that's not me, so why worry about it? Right?

It's The Thought That Counts

Christmas break is quickly coming to an end....but it seems like the snow is just beginning. I've been out the past several days shovelling snow, and on Wednesday, as I was outside in the driveway doing just that, I pulled several muscles, including those in my right shoulder, my lower back, and my left leg just above the knee. I was feeling pretty crappy about the whole thing (because, well, first of all, I like shovelling snow and now couldn't, second, I felt really lazy telling my dad I didn't think I should help him and my brother that night because I didn't want to further injure myself, and well, it hurt whenever I lifted something vaguely heavy or tried to bend down).

Professor Thomas texted me yesterday and was telling me how "shovelling snow is snow fun," and I told him about my injuries. He called me to see if I was alright. Not TEXTED, CALLED!

I've been feeling a bit out of sorts, a bit under appreciated by the general populous (as many of you know), and, well......Professor Thomas's call just made me feel so much better. It's nice to have someone outside of your family just want to make sure you're okay. It's nice to have someone do something simple, but nice for me.

Finals Week....

Finals week is almost at an end....FINALLY. I'm very lonely here, though, since most of my friends went home, and those who are here are busy studying for finals. I'd call one of those who went home (I actually have a certain professor in mind), but I don't want to come across as that lame, clingy person who calls as soon as you leave because she misses you. It's just that I'm lonely and want someone to talk to...is that so bad? :(

Luckily, before she left, the wonderful Roomie gave me cookies made of sugar, butter, and pure joy, which have been a life-saver :P

Practical Gifts

Today, the Wonderful Roomie and I learned an important lesson. When guys don't know what to get you for Christmas, unlike girls, they won't ask seventy million people what to get you. Instead, they go for something more practical. The Roomie and I stressed out about what we were going to get for Professor Thomas and Matt for Christmas. In the end, we got them fun stuff that we knew they would like: a Jeff Dunham DVD & Pepsi for the Professor, and a Mario t-shirt for Matt.

The guys got the Roomie two boxes of Lucky Charms cereal (since it's her favorite and they don't have it in the dining hall anymore), and got me a no-slip mat to go under the rug in our room, since they know I risk my life on that rug every single day. It may not be the craziest or most fun thing ever, but its still practical and thoughtful. Thanks guys :)

A Question for My Gentlemen Readers

I honestly don't understand men sometimes....like, Professor Thomas has been acting so strange lately, and its really confusing to me (or perhaps, I'm reading too much into this, and if that is the case, please tell me as much). I really don't want to talk to him about it right now, so I was hoping that all the guys who read this post would be able to give me some insight.

1. Professor Thomas is very laid back. And if something is bothering him, he usually won't say anything. Last week at dinner, the father of a classmate made some comments about him which I found to be very rude, and I said as much to the Professor. His response was to turn to me and retort angrily that if it bothers me so much, I should say something. (And please bear in mind that he DOESN'T snap at people like that. I don't think he's ever talked to me that way before). And I was just defending him. I didn't comment in front of anyone-- just me and him. Did I somehow offend him?.

2. He touches me a lot. Pinching, poking, grabbing my arm, touching my hair, even when I show that I don't like it. (Nothing inappropriate, but its very consistent).

3. A really cute guy said "hi" to him at dinner tonight (it was a guy from his dorm), and I made a comment that I thought this guy was cute. He offered to introduce us, and I said no. He then proceeded to bring the guy over AGAIN and embarrass me in front of him. Like he invited him over with the sole purpose of killing any interest between the two of us. And he did this before with another guy.

Am I totally reading too much into this? I just don't understand guys sometimes and I'd really appreciate your help on the matter, gentlemen. (And ladies, if you have boyfriends/guy friends and you recognize any behavior or have any advice, please feel free to comment as well)!

Walking

Walking with you,
Your arm around me, and your hand on my arm.
I lean my head on you
and you lay your head on mine.
My hand is on yours
and I feel so complete.

Thank you.

The Hug

I hug you, because we're friends,
but when I go to pull away,
you still hold onto me.
And I'm trapped for a second
in the gentle warmth of your embrace.
That one second felt like an eternity
because I sensed something from you
that I could not feel in myself.
But even so...
I think I'd still hug you again.

...And ONE MORE...!

I'm almost done! I have two more finals done (Psychology and Classical Mythology) and now I'm down to the "final" final...Latin. That one is going to be a bitch. Right now, my hands are so cramped up that I can barely type; holding a pencil is even harder. I was writing constantly for all those finals, and I'm just ready to be done. The hardest part is that this is my last one and my hardest. I don't want to slip up now; I'm almost finished!

Thank you to Javmango, Steven, and Chess who have been so supportive of me the past week. (Thank you to everyone else who has sent me the encouraging comments, too, but these three have been above and beyond :") I really appreciate it!) I've been stressing about finals, freaking out, and bursting with happiness, and in the end, you guys are always backing me up.

I have another question for all of you...Should I give Professor Thomas the link to this blog? He's actually already asked for it, and I kinda stalled, because I wasn't sure. What do you guys think?

I don't know how much I'm going to be posting over the summer, since I'm not on my compy as much when I'm at home, but I'll try to keep you all up to date. Its going to be hard for me, at least for the first couple of weeks, because I'm not going to have the Roomie and Professor Thomas there every day anymore. (I have a lot of people I'm going to miss over the summer, but these two are like my best friends, and they live too far away to see much over the summer. Kiity, Matt, and Courtney live closer, so that shouldn't be a problem. I have no desire to see Willoughby after some of the things he has said to me lately, and as for Odysseus, even though he lives close to me, I don't know where we stand anymore. He's been avoiding me for a while, and now, out of the blue, he's being nice again, and acknowledging me and talking to me. He even initiated conversation! :-O Shocking! I'm going to ask him to go for a walk once I finish this post, and maybe I can figure some stuff out...

Love you guys!

My Last Wednesday...

So, yesterday, as I told you guys, I had my first final taken care of. Right now, I'm supposed to be studying for the next one, but I just can't concentrate :P I want to tell y'all about my last Wednesday before the end of the school year...

So, we went out for ice cream. That is...me, the Roomie, Professor Thomas, and Courtney. It was really, really fun :) As we were walking back, Professor Thomas and I fell behind Courtney and the Roomie, and he reached out and put his arm around me, drawing me really close to him. Is it bad that I loved it? Is it bad that I loved the warmth and contact with a guy, even if he's just like my best friend, and not a romantic interest? Even if he is a faux professor? I really don't know, but I loved it.

Afterwards, the Roomie and I studied a little, and then headed over to the faux professor's dorm for cards. We played for like two hours before I finally said I had to go and finish studying. Then, it just got silly. I was lying in an arm chair, my legs over one arm, my head at the other, and Professor Thomas used it as a chance to push me across the lobby, and then threatened to pick me up and carry me even further. (I'm small, and he's much taller than I am, so he's always trying to pick me up).

We took pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. It was wonderful and fun and I loved it soo much! I'm going to miss the Roomie and Professor Thomas tons over the summer. I don't know how I'll be able to live without them for three months! (I'll be calling them a lot, that is for certain!)

Pavlov's Emmy

Yeah, so as the title might suggest, I've been studying for my Psychology final recently. Also, as the title suggests, I had a embarrassing discovery today. I was at lunch, seated between Kiity and Professor Thomas, and as usual, both were trying to make me extremely uncomfortable and jumpy by poking me in the ribs. (Yes, dear readers, I am a bit ticklish...)

Well, after their having done this to me for so long, apparently, I've developed this condition where I will jump and emit an embarrassing, high-pitched squeal before they poke me, just as I would when they poke me. Professor Thomas was quite pleased with this discovery, and then went on to explain to Kiity and the Roomie (as though he were teaching a Psychology course, with me as the test subject) that if you observe, the gesture and threats of poking have now become a conditioned response. Basically, I'll jump and squeal if you poke me; and now, if either of them simply makes the move to poke me, I'll do the same exact thing. Murr...

The only thing that I can say is that this has strengthened my understanding of Classical Conditioning, and if nothing else, I'm sure to ace that portion of the final. Still, this does nothing for my sense of pride :P

Librarian Jokes

So, I just posted a quick blurb about a reference to awesome librarians on MLIA. Well, since I've just "come out of the bookstore" about being a librarian, (at least with you guys...my friends have known for YEARS) I wanted to toss out a quick challenge for all of you...

Wanting to be a librarian is not exactly mainstream, and I get teased about it a lot (not bad teasing, just bad jokes ;P) and I can tell you that I've heard just about EVERY SINGLE librarian joke ever told. Well, here's your challenge...Come up with one I don't know! One I haven't heard! Are you up to the challenge?

Here are a few of the more memorable ones...

~"Emmy, are you going to wear your hair in a bun when you're a librarian? I mean, you already have the glasses."

~"I hope you like drinking tea; it's all librarians are allowed to drink."
-Professor Thomas

~"You're not mean enough to be a librarian." :'(

And my personal favorite....from Willoughby:

~"You'd make a wonderful librarian: you're short and female." O.o

Um...what does that even mean, Willoughby?? Seriously. (Someone needs a better sense of humor...or perhaps just needs one in general...)

So, thou hast thine quests, fine Readers! Librarian jokes! (and I'll post my favorites later on!)

Emmy the Lawbreaker

I was online checking out stuff on My Life is Average.com, and came across this entry...

"I found out that it is against the law to publicly say you are going to take over the world. MLIA"

Well, of course, I was very worried by this news, because I had always said to my friends that I was going to do just that; as well as telling Professor Thomas that I could really use his devious mind to help me in this endeavor. Now, I'm going to have to go into hiding :P Please don't tell on me! D:

Thank you! :D

Even though I doubt he's going to see this, I want to send out a HUGE thank you to Professor Thomas for really, really cheering me up today. I don't even know if he knows how much better he has made me feel, but I really, really appreciate his invitation to play euchre (substance free addition :P) with him tonight. I was feeling pretty awful over this whole turn of events with Odysseus, and like an inflatable pool toy for someone drowning, he managed to save me as I was faltering.

Euchre was a TON of fun, and both of us got hilariously slap happy. I really, really enjoyed myself, and it managed to take my mind off of Odysseus for a while. So, thank you so much, Professor Thomas! You're truly a wonderful friend!
