Weekly Wodehouse #10

Caliban at Sunset

I stood with a man
Watching the sun go down.
The air was full of murmurous summer scents
And a brave breeze sang like a bugle
From a sky that smouldered in the west,
A sky of crimson, amethyst, gold and sepia
And blue as blue were the eyes of Helen
When she sat
Gazing from some high tower in Ilium
Upon the Grecian tents darkling below.
And he,
This man who stood beside me,
Gaped like some dull, half-witted animal
And said,
"I say,
Doesn't that sunset remind you
Of a slice
Of underdone roast beef?"

  1. most people seem to be like that man, it's infuriating and depressing at the same time

  2. @javmango...

Don't I know! It actually sounds like something Willoughby would say, but instead of coming across like some dull animal, he would try to make it seem dark, depressing, and totally worthless...

As for myself, I love the sunset! Its ever-changing, and you'll never see two sunsets that are the same twice. The best is when its out over the ocean. Then, its truly glorious!

  3. Haha, that's kind of hilarious. Yet sad, because there truly are people like that. They just can't seem to see the beauty in things. Too bad, because there is so much they miss out on!
